Description:

A group of counterfeit colonial pieces is included in this lot, some of them of more recent origin. They are listed as: Sommer Islands shilling (205.3 grains, cast marked "copy"), 1694 Carolina Elephant token "O over E" (142.0 grains, excellent quality electrotype), 1779 Rhode Island ship with wreath (202.2 grains, good quality electrotype), 1787 New York Excelsior (138.9 grains, cast and toned copy), 1796 Castorland (second restrike from both original Paris mint dies, struck or plated in silver), 1796 Castorland Breen-1067 (177.5 grains, third restrike ca. 1846 - 1860, reeded edge with mint director's hand symbol before "cuivre" on edge, original obverse with a copy reverse die), and 1959 Albert Collis restrike of "Washington Born Virginia" copper (modern uniface restrike). Seven item total.
