Lot Title:
1722 Rosa Americana Halfpenny VF, 1723 Rosa Americana Penny F/cleaned and 1722 Rosa Americana Twopence VG/bent.
Description:
A trio of Rosa American coins, including one surprise piece that could prove to be something very rare. Included are: 1722 halfpenny, Breen-134 (61.7 grains, VF, cleaned but not egregiously so), 1723 penny, Breen-123 and believed R.7 (115.7 grains, Fine, possibly silvered at one time and subsequently cleaned), and 1722 twopence, Breen-89 (239.2 grains, VG obverse, VF reverse due to an early bend, small obverse patch of corrosion). The 1723 penny appears to be Breen-123 in Bath metal, given an R.7 rating by several authors, and quoted as having been absent from the Ford collection. One sold in Norweb (lot 2425), described as "REX., rare obverse punctuation variety; no stop after date, medium scroll ends". Unquestionably the jewel of this three coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
