Lot Title:

Complete set of mostly Unc. Washington silver quarters in a Whitman 9418 album.
|
Description:
|
The ability of old Whitman albums to tone coins can be a blessing or a bane, since the resulting color and toning patterns can sometimes be unpredictable. Fortunately, in this case, a number of these Washington quarters have toned very nicely, adding to the appeal of what is essentially a BU set. From the standpoint of grade only, there are many highlights, summarized as follows: 1932-D (MS-62), 1932-S (MS-61, attractive album tone), 1935-D (MS-63), 1936-D (MS-60), 1939-S (MS-64, nice reverse die crack), and 1940-D (MS-64 at least). As expected of such a high caliber collection, numerous subsequent issues are GEMs or nicer, although 1934-D is only AU-58. Toning enthusiasts simply must examine this set with care, since the following coins are nicely toned: 1932-S, 1940-S, 1941-S, 1947-S, 1948-S, 1949, 1950, and 1955. It is no coincidence that these are coins in slots at the edge of a page, since it is known that albums will typically allow those to tone the best.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
