Lot Title:
Nine Barber half-dollars.
Description:
Surface issues can be distinguished for several members of this San Francisco Barber half-dollar septet, but in most cases, the respective coin is not egregiously "ugly". Suffice it to assume that each of these halves has been cleaned, polished or merely dipped, with one notably tooled exception. They are cataloged as follows: 1898-S (AU/polished), 1899-S (XF/polished), 1903-S (AU/tooled portrait/cleaned), 1908-S (XF/polished), 1909-S (XF/cleaned), 1910-S (XF/cleaned), 1911-S (XF/cleaned), 1912-S (AU/cleaned), and 1914-S (XF/cleaned). Some have begun to retone naturally and are on their way to a far more natural appearance in this nine coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
