Lot Title:
1936-D 3 1/2 Legs (FS-019) ANACS XF details/corroded, Net VF-30.
Description:
Without the aid of magnification, this appears to be an amazingly nice and naturally preserved buffalo nickel, and even closer scrutiny reveals strictly vintage surface quality. However, the "corroded" disclaimer indicated on the ANACS label pertains to a number of green spots on the obverse, in particular several warty spots on the Indian's nose and a couple of blobs around the date. The good news is that careful and proper conservation can almost certainly remove the spots safely. The bad news is that the ANACS "details" grade of EF appears a little optimistic, as the overall grade is more like VF-30, provided removal of the spots is successful. Curiously, VF-30 is their overall net grade! Of course, the 1936 3.5 legged buffalo has gained wide acceptance in the hobby over the last decade, and prices have escalated significantly over that time, suggesting that this is an ideal speculator's coin.
