(About The Images)
1876-CC PCGS AU-58. 1876-CC PCGS AU-58.
Lot Title: 1876-CC PCGS AU-58.
Description: Bagmarks are a common affliction for large Carson City coins such as the double-eagle, but there are fewer than usual in the fields of this example, the portrait being typically abraded especially on Liberty's cheek. Hints of prooflike reflectivity can be seen mostly on the reverse. Very few 1876-CC double-eagles rise much above the AU-58 grade, since the aforementioned bagmarks generally assure lower mint-state status - if the coin can be found uncirculated at all. Thus, a more attractive AU-58 is often a suitable alternative to a mangled uncirculated example.

High Estimate: $3,600.00

877The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$1,450.00
1876-CC PCGS VF-35.
1876-CC is not especially scarce in lower grades, but at the very-fine level and above, begins to show a premium over common issues. Further, it is well known that most examples of the date...
1229The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$1,300.00
1876-CC PCGS Genuine.
With XF-40 details, the cleaning of this coin has by no means reduced it to uncollectable status, as some luster is retained at the edges. But the color is a bit too uniform and bright to appeal to...
1230The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$1,400.00
1876-CC PCGS VF-35.
Besides being coveted for the Carson City mintmark, 1876-CC is a better date in the double-eagle series, with survivors originating from a mintage of only 138,441 pieces. Moderate wear has likely...
1040The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$1,350.00
1876-CC XF/lightly cleaned.
Delicate but unmistakable hairlines traverse the obverse fields and suggest a nearly forgivable, old cleaning that has had just minimal noticeable effect on the remaining mint luster. The strike was...
1038The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$1,200.00
1876-CC AU-53.
An alluring example of one of the more readily available dates from this popular western mint. Contact ticks are congruent for this amply detailed specimen. The piece glistens with a golden orange...
446The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$6,500.00
1876-CC NGC MS-61.
Full spinning luster flows around the obverse surfaces of this PQ-for-the-grade Carson City issue. It is bright overall and reflects radiant golden color. Though one of the more available dates from...
