(About The Images)
1921-S NGC XF-45. 1921-S NGC XF-45.
Lot Title: 1921-S NGC XF-45.
Description: Without question, 1921-S stands as THE key to the Walking Liberty half-dollar series in grades of XF and above, exceeded only at the extreme high end of the grading scale by perhaps the 1919-D. This is a remarkably attractive and completely original example, perfectly graded in an NGC holder and simply a flawless coin by any reasonable standard. For a coin with fifteen points of wear, neither side reveals any notable blemishes or incidental flaws. Judging by the fact that the reverse is two full shades darker than the obverse, one can keenly deduce that the coin sat in an open-faced album (Whitman, perhaps) for decades, preventing attrition of detail or quality by improper handling. Details are obviously strong, and the obverse features superb delineation (by 1921-S standards) of the skirt folds and of the precious olive branch that Liberty cradles proudly in her left arm. Amazing coin, and one that is aesthetically unsurpassable at this grade level.

675The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$17,750.00
1921-S PCGS MS-62.
The reverse should elicit acclaim for virtually full silvery brilliance, which helps amplify rather outstanding sharpness for 1921-S - something astute collectors will covet. Extensive, pastel...
734The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$550.00
1921-S PCGS VF-20.
New World Estate. All of the 1921 issues are tough in the various silver series, and even a VF graded 1921-S half is a prize for many traditional collectors. The obverse features just barely enough...
869The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$2,300.00
1921-S XF/cleaned.
No-Land Road Estate. Perhaps cleaned but not at all drastically so, since the entire coin still retains considerable patina, with predominantly olive-grey color accented by natural bluish tones...
599The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$280.00
1921-S PCGS F-12.
Slightly undergraded at a glance, this looks like a lock for upgrade, given surprising definition at Liberty's upper torso. The eagle's wings feature rather sharp detail as well, and overall, the...
536The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$600.00
1921-S PCGS VF-20.
It can be argued that VF-20 is THE perfect grade in which to collect Walkers, since it is beyond this point that some issues become very expensive, yet the effort of finding compatible and...
619The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$800.00
1921-S NGC VF-25.
Supremely original in every possible way, dove-grey patina is distributed with astoundingly even consistency, and contributes mightily to the enormous vintage appeal of this key half-dollar. In...
499The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$230.00
1921-S PCGS F-12.
An exquisite coin for the grade, the marvelous pearl-grey surfaces reveal no distractions whatsoever from the amazingly original quality. F-12 is about the highest grade beyond which 1921-S begins to...
452The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$300.00
1921-S PCGS F-15.
Familiar as a key to the series, 1921-S escalates rapidly in value above the F-15 level, making this example a likely bargain in the PCGS holder. Strictly original and completely untroubled by post...
796The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$10,500.00
1921-S PCGS AU-55.
Price guides give considerable advantage to the 1921-S over the 1921 and 1921-D in AU grades, valuing it at nearly three times the level of its companions, but study of auction results shows that in...
624The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$925.00
1921-S VF-30+.
This key date example is just a breath away from being given the designation of Extremely Fine. There are no unsightly blemishes or surface marks. Its appealing, light silver surfaces add to the...
