(About The Images)
1878 NGC PF-66 Cameo CAC. 1878 NGC PF-66 Cameo CAC.
Lot Title: 1878 NGC PF-66 Cameo CAC.
Description: Mirrored fields shimmer with exemplary reflectivity for the series, contrasting very well with ivory-white devices. A mere whisper of smoky golden tone bathes each side, but does not inhibit excellent eye-appeal in the slightest. Many 1878 examples were struck off of heavily polished dies, as was this one, distinguishable by the enlarged eye socket and intermittent hair detail at the back of the head. 1878 is missing from every business-strike collection of three-cent nickels since, of course, it is a proof-only issue, with 2,350 pieces struck.
Low Estimate: $1,100.00
High Estimate: $1,250.00

964The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$750.00
1878 PCGS PF-64CAM.
Sparkling surfaces appear pristine at first glance, and invite speculation as to why a higher grade couldn't be assigned. Upon further review, some minor grey spots can be found strewn across each...
965The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$825.00
1878 NGC PF-65.
The slab is a little scruffy, but that doesn't prevent appreciation of apricot-tan coloration of the fields, and decent surfaces overall. Liberty's hair is well defined, which is not always a given...

1878 NGC PF-66 CAMEO CAC.

Attractive cameo presence is the result of lightly frosted motifs and decent mirrors, even though each side is peppered with a number of carbon spots. Indeed, it is these spots which are suggestive...
522The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$975.00
1878 NGC PF-66.
Limited contrast fails to achieve the level necessary for a "cameo" designation, but the frosted iron-grey devices present a very attractive appearance next to the shining fields. Characteristic of...

1878 ANACS PF-53.
(Ex. Heritage 8/6/2003: 675) Unintended circulation of this proof-only issue has resulted in a coin with a surprisingly attractive business strike appearance. The gorgeous pewter-tin patina is...
