1857 NGC MS-63 PL. 1857 NGC MS-63 PL.
Lot Title: 1857 NGC MS-63 PL.
Description: (Ex. "Queller" Heritage 4/16/2008:2114) As with a number of other dates in the series, the 1857 Seated Liberty dollar is known for prooflike examples, this being one that displays highly reflective fields that contrast modestly with the textured devices. Dynamic range of the prooflike effect may be a little subdued by light russet-gold patina that gently washes across each side, but this is a lot better than the overly bright appearance of many dipped examples. As expected, the delicate surfaces are affected by a number of tiny nicks and handling marks, but not one of them is singularly offensive. Even without a "PL" designation, seated dollars are difficult enough as type coins in better UNC grades, and the addition of prooflike character only expands the appeal of this piece.

Scarcely any evidence of actual physical wear appears under examination, but numerous tiny bagmarks and abrasions speak of some time spent in pockets in contact with coins and other trouser items. An...
