(About The Images)
1851-C ANACS AU-53. 1851-C ANACS AU-53.
Lot Title: 1851-C ANACS AU-53.
Description: Careful examination with a loupe suggests that this was a somewhat more heavily toned gold coin at one time, relieved at some point of a majority of the darker patina that has some remnants still lurking in protected areas. Still, surfaces manage to retain that lemon-gold color for which Charlotte coins are famous. This example is better defined than many, with bold separation of individual hair strands and a particularly strong mintmark.

377The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$2,600.00
1851-C NGC MS-60.
MS-60 as a grade needs to come back into vogue, as it ideally represents a coin like this -- one that truly shows no actual wear, but whose luster are may be a little dull. Of course, this being...
908The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$750.00
1851-C XF/damaged surfaces.
Reputation as the most accessible gold dollar struck in Charlotte makes it a common selection as a type for that mint, but even so, just 41,267 were struck, and "common" is a relative term when...
719The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$2,300.00
1851-C NGC MS-61.
Bright yellow surfaces speak to past conservation, though only a handful of wispy hairlines can be seen on either side, and a breath of bronze patina may be seen on highpoints of Liberty's hair and...
870The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$600.00
1851-C VF, scratched.
A reasonably original appearing coin with a decent strike for a Charlotte product. A couple of minor pin scratches appear on the right side of the obverse, and a handful more are in the denomination...
911The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$4,000.00
1851-C NGC MS-62.
1851-C is known as the Charlotte gold dollar most commonly available in uncirculated grades, and excellent surface preservation and plentiful mint luster leave no doubt as to the Mint State status of...
