Lot Title:
1880-S NGC MS-64.
Description:
Unlike so much impossibly bright coronet gold, the surface of this 1880-S displays considerable original quality, with variation in the amber-gold nuances that suggests it has not been dipped. As with Morgan dollars of the same vintage and mint, strike quality is outstanding, bearing sharp hair strands and particularly well defined feather details. For the MS-64 grade, there are more than the expected number of handling marks on the reverse, while the obverse just barely meets expectations, but any perceived shortcomings are compensated by the excellent originality.
