(About The Images)
1897-S PCGS MS-65. 1897-S PCGS MS-65.
Lot Title: 1897-S PCGS MS-65.
Description: Startlingly beautiful cobalt-bronze and azure marbled tone creeps across both sides of this coin, entwining it in a pattern reminiscent of English ivy as it clambers over an old stone wall. This is a toning pattern quite unlike what is normally seen, that's for certain! The artistic result is difficult to describe, but luster emblazoned across the fields only adds to the marvelous effect. On top of considerable aesthetic merit, an extraordinary strike appears to have brought up every possible detail available to the die, and despite a technical grade of just MS-65, this coin far exceeds lofty expectations in every regard. Contact marks are minimal, and of course, the eye appeal is fantastic. Few coins can aspire to the rarified level required of the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice, and grade and value never factor into the award, but this is a hands-down obvious candidate to receive the title. A magnificent gem!
