(About The Images)
1844 (N-5) PCGS MS-62BN. 1844 (N-5) PCGS MS-62BN.
Lot Title: 1844 (N-5) PCGS MS-62BN.
Description: Two thin vertical scratches on Liberty's neck may have been present practically since the second this large-cent was struck, as they are obviously ancient and toned right along with the balance of the surfaces. Recutting of both 4s in the date lead to rapid attribution as N-5, a common Newcomb variety. The PCGS MS-62 BN grade may seem surprisingly conservative, especially since there are twitches of bright mint red adhering to some reverse devices, but the aforementioned scratches undoubtedly limited grade consideration.
