Lot Title:
1995 "large broadstruck" Kennedy half-dollar PCGS MS-66.
Description:
With a diameter not much smaller than a silver dollar, this 1995 Kennedy half was broadstruck on a type-1 planchet, which helps to explain its grotesque size. Because it never passed through the upsetting machine, the planchet was already oversized when struck, presumably preventing the retaining collar from engaging, and resulting in an even more distended planchet than would be the case for a type-2 planchet. PCGS went so far as to include a "Lg" (large") disclaimer as part of the description of the coin on the insert. From the Robert Chester collection.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
