1837 "Head of 38" (N-9, R.1). AU. 1837 "Head of 38" (N-9, R.1). AU.
Lot Title: 1837 "Head of 38" (N-9, R.1). AU.
Description: Specialists who enjoy large-cent cuds will find this "die state D" an ideal acquisition. The cud on the right obverse rim is nicely formed, as are several die cracks on the obverse. An old obverse cleaning has recovered nicely.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1837 Medium Letters (N-3) PCGS MS-65.
7070 Collection. Shimmering velvet textured luster unexpectedly dominates the eye-appeal, given the "brown" color designation, though the reverse proves to have fully a quarter of its vintage mint...
352The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$210.00
1837 PCGS AU-50 (green label), and an 1854 PCGS VF-35 (green label).
The 1837 is pedigreed to Pittman, one of the great collections, but that is unconfirmed by your cataloger. Regrettably, it must be pointed out the coin has been recolored, and the obverse is...
158The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$180.00
1837 Plain Cord, Medium Letters. PCGS AU-55.
Pleasing luster emanates gently from the protected fields, absent only in the presence of very mild wear in the broadest unprotected areas. A pleasing coin.
232The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$450.00
1837 N-8, R-1. NGC MS-64 BN.
This specimen's mahogany brown surfaces are devoid of any obtrusive marks or blemishes. A minor fracture on the rim at 2:30 is perceived on this handsomely struck Large Cent.
