Lot Title:
Four Colonial coins.
Description:
Handsome colonial coppers make up this lot, and all of them are pleasing for their respective grades, with none of the poor surface qualities often seen for such coins. The 1723 "Breen-157" Hibernia grades fine and offers excellent circulation cameo contrast and decent surface quality. Next is a 1767 French 1-sou without RF counterstamp -- a much tougher Redbook coin, and displays very-fine details and surfaces affected by a mere splash of verdigris. Next is a 1786 14i New Jersey that has fine details struck on a gorgeous, large planchet, and the lot concludes with a 1788 Connecticut with fine details and a fairly typical planchet. Undoubtedly, the 1-sou coin is the jewel of this lot, since is is a surprisingly difficult type to find without the familiar "RF" counterstamp. Four coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
