Lot Title:
|
1887 PCGS MS-65.
|
Description:
|
Curiously deficient obverse definition is suggestive of a partially filled die, as the coin may have been struck through grease, preventing the finest design elements to be struck up at Liberty's head and foot. Yet, the reverse is reasonably bold. Aside from strike consideration, this is a frosty, lustrous gem that features the requisite lack of abrasions that lead to MS-65 consideration. Silvery bright surfaces are endowed with a light vanilla-gold patina.

This dime has very much the appearance of a prooflike circulation strike given the surprisingly indistinct features at Liberty's head and at the lower area of the wreath. Brilliant white overall with... |

A commonplace strike may be at least partially responsible for the slightly dull luster, although it is likely this coin has been dipped. The inception of an edge cud is apparent at the far left side... |

1887 MS-64.

A bright white and lustrous example with light marks consistent with an MS-64. It would be a lovely example to choose for a type set. |
