Lot Title:
Twenty-one certified Mercury dimes with Full Bands.
Description:
Without the consignor's explicit statements to this effect, one may assume that this lot of dimes represents effort to form a complete "short set" of superior quality original pieces housed in prior generation(s) PCGS slabs. Virtually to a coin, these are all shimmering, brilliant white pieces of tremendous appeal. All of the following are encapsulated in large format green-label holders and graded MS-65 FB unless otherwise noted. Dates include: 1934, 1935 (a PQ coin), 1936 (very PQ), 1936-S, 1937 (rattler), 1937-D (scruffy slab, but obverse appears prooflike), 1937-S, 1938 (hint of golden tone), 1938-D, 1938-D (NGC MS-66 FB), 1938-S, 1939-D (with an extra hair inside the slab), 1940 (rattler), 1940-D (rattler, light golden tone), 1940-S, 1941 (MS-66 FB), 1941-D (rattler), 1941-S (rattler, splashes of obverse tone), 1942 (rattler, reverse die-clash), 1942-D (rattler), and 1942-S. An astonishing selection of twenty-one GEMs from the Will Shorter Collection.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
