Lot Title:
1847 MS-60 and 1849 AU.
Description:
1847 received a decent strike and has a pleasing appearance featuring the slightest glow of mint red at the edge of some devices, leading to a grade of at least MS-60 BN. There is an interesting lamination at S1. 1849 has exceedingly sharp rims that seem to be squared off as would be the case for a proof, and the strike raised a knife edge along the upper-right obverse rim! Interestingly, this coin features other prooflike characteristics, including subtle field reflectivity and a remarkable level of die polish and tooling marks around the devices. A very interesting two coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
