(About The Images)
1872 PCGS PF-64RD. 1872 PCGS PF-64RD.
Lot Title: 1872 PCGS PF-64RD.
Description: Stunning, glittering mint red blazes off each side, instantly affirming the PCGS "RD" designation in the grade. This little red gem features only modest cameo contrast, as the fields display limited reflectivity, but neither side is hazed, as might be the case for improperly stored coins, and the strike is, of course, exceptionally sharp. Toning is limited to slightly streaky mellow orange patina across the lower half of the obverse, while the reverse is consistently amber-orange.
Low Estimate: $1,700.00
High Estimate: $1,850.00
Lot Status: Bidding has been closed for this lot.
Hammered Price: $2,100.00

181The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$280.00
1872 PCGS VF-30.
1872 obviously falls within the "murder's row" for Indian cents of the 1870s, where even VF examples prove elusive with pleasing surface qualities. Marvelous, smooth chocolate-brown patina commands...
320The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$425.00
1872 Shallow N (Snow-10b) NGC AU-55 BN.
The "Shallow N" reverse has received sufficient notoriety to make an appearance in the Redbook, with popularity of the subtype possibly explained by that die's usage on the famed 1877 key (the final...
248The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$280.00
1872 ANACS F-12.
Small ANACS holder. LIBERTY is as readable as it gets, with the first and last letters readily visible, while the BER shows softness on about the top half of each letter. Several contact marks show...
249The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$360.00
1872 PCGS VF-30.
Portions of two diamonds show clearly, and more importantly LIBERTY may be easily and clearly read on the headband since every letter is present and fully formed. A couple of ancient pinscratches...
250The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$360.00
1872 PCGS VF-30.
Smooth and luscious brown like melted chocolate chips, with no problems at all on either side. Sweeten your small cent collection with this tantalizing upgrade today!
251The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$330.00
1872 PCGS VF-35.
Extremely original with perfect chocolate-brown patina accented here and there by deeper walnut tone. LIBERTY seems a bit indistinct within the final few letters, but such striking deficiency is...
252The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$725.00
1872 NGC MS-62 BN.
Better than most 1872 cents, this example offers decent planchet quality and a sharper-than-average strike for the date, with almost all four diamonds struck up. On the reverse, mint red delicate...
253The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$1,150.00
1872 NGC MS-64 BN.
Without doubt, Indian cents from 1869 through 1877 are the "murder's row" of the series, with 1872 smack-dab in the middle of all of it. While so many examples come to the market with problems, this...
238The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$360.00
1872 PCGS VF-30.
A trivial layer of oil (Blue Ribbon, perhaps) brings out glossy highlights and promotes the eye-appeal of this 1872 semi-key. Everyone knows that the cents of the early 1870s are quite difficult to...
239The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$1,500.00
1872 PCGS MS-64RB.
On the obverse, a third of the original red swirls about the periphery, with the reverse showing perhaps a quarter of the mint red remaining, again in the far flung areas. Internal details are not...
201The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$525.00
1872 MS-60.
While some underlying red may be seen on the obverse, that side is dominated by olive-brown color, while the reverse is about half red. Some question as to the source of the obverse toning leads to...
202The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$250.00
1872 F.
1872 is known to be much tougher to find with decent surfaces, and this example surpasses expectations in that regard. LIBERTY is just readable enough to qualify for an F grade, but three small...
522The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$500.00
1872 PCGS AU-55.
1872 is a notorious as a date that is difficult to obtain "nice" in the Indian head cent series. Clean, natural brown surfaces characterize this appealing example, with the most obvious sign of...
442The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$1,350.00
1872 Indian Head cent, PCGS MS-64 RB
Despite the conservative "RB" designation supplied by PCGS, about 80% of the original mint red color has been retained by this key-date cent over the past 135 years. A good strike has imparted nearly...
267The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$360.00
1872 NGC VF-30 BN.
“BER” is typically only partially defined for the grade, but the color and surface quality are excellent for an issue that always seems to be ugly. A touch of woodgrain effect shows up under some...
316The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$500.00
1872 PCGS XF-45.
This lot offers an opportunity to acquire a very low mintage key-date issue in an upper circulated grade level. Its marvelous natural brown hue and distinct design detailing make it a most desirable...
317The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$775.00
1872 NCS Unc Details, Altered Color.
An example that has an MS-64 look to it with ample luster. It looks more flashy Red than Brown, but NGC deemed the color to be altered. Most would say that it could have gone either way.
294The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$575.00
1872 PCGS AU-58.
This semi-key date is embellished with a handsome mahogany color that permeates its glossy smooth surfaces. The meager tick or two discerned are hardly worth mentioning. The relative soft design...
295The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$550.00
1872 MS-62 RB.
A few light marks in the fields on the obverse are the only thing holding this coin back from loftier grades. It has pleasing color, a great strike, and rolling luster.
867The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$475.00
1872 PCGS XF-45.
A reddish brown aspect bedecks this semi-key's rather smooth surfaces. A random number of insignificant contact marks are mostly subdued by this impressive hue. Strong detailing is observed for this...
868The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$2,600.00
1872 NGC MS-65 RB.
This specimen's obverse glistens with an eminent red-orange hue, while its reverse surface is bedecked with an illustrious royal blue aspect. This prevailing key date to this series has essentially...
