Lot Title:
1880 NGC MS-62*.
Description:
Blatant prooflike quality is immediately noticeable for this "star" gold coin, but this same characteristic is both a blessing and a bane, since of course the format is visually attractive, while the fragile mirrors are prone to exaggerating every tiny abrasion. That is the case here, since the fields are not really that heavily abraded, but their reflectivity unfairly multiplies the effect of myriad tiny abrasions. An intriguing jewel with an arresting appearance that must be seen to be appreciated.
