(About The Images)
1923-D MS-64. 1923-D MS-64.
Lot Title: 1923-D MS-64.
Description: Lovely cartwheel luster spins unimpeded about each side, sparkling with fine, satiny texture and amplifying an excellent strike. A "sunburst" effect shimmers from the immediate left and right of Liberty's torso -- a marvelous visual effect sometimes seen on Morgan dollars, but virtually never on Saints. MS-64 reflects an almost remarkable lack of abrasions.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Lot #AuctionCurrent Bid or Hammer PriceDescription
1282The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$1,750.00
1923-D NGC MS-64.
Samuel Robertson Gold Consignment. Excellent quality for MS-64, with unblemished fields and well struck devices. The presentation benefits from grapefruit-gold accents, but the usual small contact...
1283The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$1,450.00
1923-D NGC MS-64.
Mike Wrinkle Collection. Brash, vibrant luster shimmers from untroubled fields. Many high-grade Saints tend to suffer from innumerable tiny ticks that can readily prove distracting, but this glowing...
1047The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$1,750.00
1923-D PCGS MS-63 (rattler).
Well defined with a minimum of contact marks for MS-63. Thin greyish patina drapes both sides but fails to inhibit vibrancy.
667The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$2,400.00
1923-D PCGS MS-66.
Here is an utterly drop-dead gorgeous Saint, easily worthy of the esteemed MS-66 grade assigned by PCGS. 1923-D is by no means a scarce date, but how many are this original and feature mint-green...
668The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$2,300.00
1923-D PCGS MS-66.
1923-D is common even in grades up through MS-66, but there is just something about a high-grade Saint that attracts. Sharpness is slightly soft, as expected from a Denver twenty, but the surface...
1264The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$1,700.00
1923-D PCGS MS-63 (green label).
Distinctly nicer than what is usually expected of MS-63, because the surfaces are smooth and practically free from major abrasions. An upgrade candidate if there ever was one, housed in a PCGS...
989The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$2,700.00
Two 1923-D, AU and MS-63/light hairlines.
Strike quality is exceptional for the first of these 1923-D Saints, with surfaces that exhibit remarkable velvety texture, and were it not for a number of patchy hairlines across Liberty's upper...
1201The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$2,000.00
1923-D PCGS MS-65.
Without even looking at the grade on the slab, less than a second is required to instantly recognize gem quality in a gold Saint. Amazing luster dispenses from the fields, virtually immune to any...
927The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$1,150.00
1923-D NGC MS-62.
Though relatively unabraded, several tiny contact marks affect the obverse surfaces, augmented by a pinscratch left of Liberty's torso, and a few other hairline scratches elsewhere in the fields. A...
928The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$1,400.00
1923-D NGC MS-63.
Sometimes, a particular grade just seems "right" for a coin, and MS-63 perfectly suits this 1923-D Saint. Visual presentation is highly acceptable, and coruscating bands of luster ensure the eye...
863The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$1,200.00
1923-D MS-60.
Lustrous and fully original. Most bidders will see this as being nicer than MS-60, but 1923-D is a common date.
1259The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$1,650.00
1923-D MS-64.
A sparkling jewel just plucked out of a consignor's Capital Plastic type set. The obverse features an excellent strike and delightful satiny luster, while the reverse is similarly bright and...
1076The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$2,100.00
1923-D (Unc details/cleaned) and 1926 (MS-63).
Despite its immediate appearance as that of a very choice Saint, the 1923-D is proven to be lightly hairlined, mostly in the far left obverse field. The overall grade is MS-60/cleaned. Its companion...
1077The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$1,750.00
1923-D NGC MS-65.
Equivalent satiny texture overlays each side, though the reverse is perceptibly half a shade duskier than the obverse. A common coin even through the "gem" level.
1058The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$925.00
1923-D Saint-Gaudens double-eagle, MS-63
Judging by remnants of dark patina, it is likely this gold coin was heavily dipped, resulting in impaired luster. A long die crack penetrates the eagle's beak.
1189The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$1,975.00
1923-D PCGS MS-66.
Virtually flawless, as the grade would imply, this magnificent example from the age of Prohibition and the "speak-easy" exhibits gleaming and rich golden surfaces. Distinctly struck.
1075The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$2,100.00
1923-D PCGS MS-65.
I guess the graders were grumpy the day this coin was certified as it is well deserving of a higher grade. It has attractive toning, nary a mark, a super strike, rolling luster, and no copper spots. ...
663The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$7,500.00
1923-D PCGS MS-67.
Superior appeal bursts from the gleaming surfaces radiating a rich golden orange aspect. A speckle or two are seen if a powerful glass is employed. The strike is outstanding and eminently manifests...
