(About The Images)
1878 PCGS PF-66. 1878 PCGS PF-66.
Lot Title: 1878 PCGS PF-66.
Description: Exquisitely sharp details are more finely detailed than usual even for a proof striking, probably indicating a fairly fresh die. Though only the slightest contrast may be seen, fields are immaculately smooth, and the overall preservation is definitely impressive. A few tiny strikethroughs in the upper right obverse area may be seen with a loupe.
Low Estimate: $1,900.00
High Estimate: $2,300.00

378The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$1,600.00
1878 NGC PF-64.
7070 Collection. Quality seems more than adequate for PF-64, as neither side actually shows any noticeable hairlines at all. However, some carbon spotting could be what barred a gem grade. Struck...
364The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$1,500.00
1878 PCGS PF-64 (ogh).
The PCGS green-label holder identifies this proof shield nickel as grading PF-64, and the coin is well suited to that conservative assessment. Chrome-bright surfaces gleam with distinctive...
189The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$1,500.00
1878 PCGS PF-65.
A hands down, no question gem that actually appears slightly finer from the obverse alone. Despite the proof format, cartwheel luster figures prominently into the appearance of both sides, though...
575The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$1,200.00
1878 ANACS Proof Cleaned, Net PF-60.
A quick glance at this reflective coin gives the impression of a very nice proof, but the ANACS disclaimer of "cleaned" is confirmed by subtle diagonal hairlines on the obverse, and corresponding...
