Lot Title:
1941 PCGS PF-65.
Description:
The term "rainbow toning" has been stretched out and used these days to describe just about any colorful pattern on any coin, regardless of the spectrum of colors actually represented. But the term, in it's original sense, could not be more apt for a coin's description than it is here. This 1941 proof quarter is unquestionably a brilliant and reflective gem, but what makes it truly spectacular is the presence of the most vivid, vibrant and electrifying sequence of rainbow tones ever seen on a silver coin. Beginning with chartreuse tint at the center, the full chromatic spectrum lays out in progressive concentric circles comprised of sherbet- orange, magenta, violet, sky-blue, cyan, jade-green, mint-yellow and a return to the original chartreuse. On the reverse, this sequence is practically reversed, with the eagle's breast tinted in progressive hues of jade-green, violet, cyan an chartreuse, though this latter color is by far the dominant tint. An almost indescribably beautiful coin that is poised to command an equally stunning bid.
