(About The Images)
1834 Small Sate, Small Letters (O-114). PCGS AU-58. 1834 Small Sate, Small Letters (O-114). PCGS AU-58.
Lot Title: 1834 Small Sate, Small Letters (O-114). PCGS AU-58.
Description: O-114 is a wonderful Overton die-marriage because it illustrates plainly the difficulties encountered when engraving working dies by hand. First letter "E" in E PLURIBUS UNUM was originally cut too far from the left end of the ribbon, and when the engraver realized there wouldn't enough room for the rest of the motto, he took the practical course of action: strike it out and try again! Coarse remnants of the original letter remain visible even to the unaided eye. Aesthetically, there is much to please the collector about this coin. While overall appearance is dictated by prevailing silver-beige color, the reverse is elevated by a handsome ring of rainbow toning obviously derived from album storage, and the same indigo, jade-green and magenta tints sweep down the right obverse field. The second, fifth, sixth and twelfth stars show striations remaining from the planchet manufacturing process.

1834 Large Date, Small Letters (O-108) UNC.
Ronald Zink Early Type Collection. Very faint hairlines and an obviously overly-white appearance probably put the grade right at MS-60. Still, details on each side have been quite suitably brought...

1834 No Edge Lettering (O-115) AU.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Missing edge lettering was all the rage with Presidential dollars not so long ago, but those are coins minted on machines by the billions (seemingly). The finite...

1834 Small Date, Small Letters (O-113, R.1) PCGS AU-55.
Blundering of the first "E" on the reverse scroll leads to rapid attribution as the common O-113. Decent luster penetrates through the fields, especially on the obverse right, with cartwheel effect...
