Lot Title:
1908-S PCGS MS-64.
Description:
Intensely attractive mother-of-pearl luster radiates with lovely silvery-grey radiance from the obverse fields, and the same original tint beams off the reverse in more typical cartwheel fashion. This coin was struck on an interesting planchet that was deeply scored by the milling process during manufacture of the coin blanks. Deep diagonal grooves across the eagle are remnants of the process, and are highly reminiscent of adjustment marks on early bust coinage. Fortunately, an impressive strike has effaced most of the grooved lines, and brought up sharp details on the obverse, including fully defined peripheral stars.
