Lot Title:
1787 New Jersey Copper, Large Planchet Type. Maris 63-q, Rarity-1, 130.8 grains. VF.
Description:
Maris 63-q is a familiar New Jersey variety that often comes nice, and this example is particularly so, with an expansive planchet that easily facilitates a fully beaded border on both sides and therefore, of course, well centered design elements. Nut-brown color is simply outstanding for the type, fading gently to ideal chocolate-bronze color on the devices and in areas of the fields. Fine granularity detracts nothing from the overall appearance, which is made even more bold by deeply recessed dark toning around letters and devices. The late die-state features a break on the upper left corner of the shield, and is also characterized by weakness of the horse's head and the shield.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
