(About The Images)
1871 XF/lightly cleaned.. 1871 XF/lightly cleaned..
Lot Title: 1871 XF/lightly cleaned..
Description: Luster pervades each side, particularly the reverse, but a light cleaning may have helped along the appearance just a little, as this coin is too white to be considered original. A rim bump at 10:00 of the reverse is probably too minor to be distracting.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Low Estimate: $475.00
High Estimate: $600.00

799The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$650.00
1871 NGC AU-50.
Marshmallow Collection. Surprisingly thick, dense patina has been permitted to settle across the surfaces, much unlike the oft-dipped coins that come to market in AU slabs. Details have been rather...
800The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$2,600.00
1871 ANACS PF-64.
Wine And Dine Collection. Fields, especially for the obverse, probably feature only limited reflectivity in the first place, and as commonly happens for toned proof coins, the contrast suffers even...
905The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$575.00
1871 and 1875-CC, as described.
These served as type coins in the consignor's father's set, but unfortunately, both were glued into the album for many decades, leaving a deposit of residue on the reverse of each. That said, both...
630The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$2,800.00
1871 ANACS PF-64
Huge eye-appeal for a large coin like this almost seems too big to be housed in an old ANACS holder, but collectors will manage. The sparkling surfaces exhibit strong, obvious reflectivity although...
792The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$390.00
1871 F details/cleaned, and an 1872 VG details/cleaned.
The surface of both coins has been dulled from improper cleaning, and there is evidence that several rim dings are tooled, discolored now from such activity. Two coin lot.
580The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$380.00
1871 ANACS XF-45.
Don't you just miss those classic small-sized ANACS holders? Even for large coins such as the silver dollar, their convenient, petite size always seemed to allow extra emphasis of the coin itself. ...
581The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$675.00
1871 PCGS AU-50.
Luster is prevalent on both sides, but particularly strong on the reverse, where it remains about three-quarters present and is suggestive of a grade higher than AU-50. In fact, because this coin is...
690The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$1,100.00
1871 ICG MS-60.
On balance, MS-60 seems to be just the right grade, as there is just enough luster available to support BU assessment. While the fields have a colorless aluminum appearance, the devices brandish...
551The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$425.00
1871 XF.
Lead-grey patina embraces much of the surface area, giving a somewhat muted, murky appearance to each side. Details suggest an XF grade.
515The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$1,100.00
1871 AU-58.
Removed from a PCGS holder with serial number 6966.58/3383609, where it was graded AU-58. A coin with prominent mint luster and salmon-apricot accents atop some of the highpoint details.
846The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$2,200.00
1871 at least PF-60.
PCGS once graded this coin PF-63, though it was removed from its slab by the consignor for inclusion in an album type set. The grade unquestionably fits, and could even be a bit conservative as this...
629The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$525.00
1871 and 1872 Seated Liberty dollars
Except for variance in color, these dollars match up pretty well. The 1871 grades F-12, and the 1872 is a VF-20. The 1872 is a couple of shades lighter than its companion, but there is no evidence...
630The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$380.00
1871 Seated Liberty dollar, AU-50, dipped
Remarkable for its very stark appearance, this large silver coin displays no obvious signs of cleaning, but the pale appearance can't be considered untampered with.
520The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$400.00
1871 AU-55.
This untoned example has excellent design detailing for the assigned grade. As the result of a light cleaning, it exhibits a muted brilliance. There are no unsightly blemishes or rim bruises that...
670The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$260.00
1871 XF-40 Lightly Cleaned.
This dollar has AU+ detail and nice color. Unfortunately, it was lightly cleaned some time ago.
671The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$875.00
1871 MS-60+.
An awesome coin from the Lindesmith Collection auctioned by Bowers and Merena March 23-24, 2000. The fields are semi-prooflike, and the devices are sharply struck. The obverse has some faint lines,...
