(About The Images)
1846 AU. 1846 AU.
Lot Title: 1846 AU.
Description: Simply outstanding quality in a Seated Liberty dollar that has seen little circulation. Mottled sienna-tan and golden-orange patina washes upward across the obverse and sprinkles the reverse with vintage quality, and there are no rim bumps to detract. Marks of note are isolated to a single handling mark in the left obverse field and a thin old scratch following the outer edge of the eagle's right (observed) wing. A major cud is beginning to form above "D STATES OF AM".

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

792The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$725.00
1846 NGC AU details/reverse damage.
Marshmallow Collection. Damage appears to be isolated to an area above the eagle's head, and actually seems to be comprised of an excess of sharp reed marks from about a half-dozen blows. Otherwise,...
895The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$625.00
1846 XF/cleaned, and an 1872 VF.
7070 Collection. The 1846 shows very pale surfaces with something of a steely bluish cast that suggests cleaning sometime along the way. 1872 has lesser details, but definitely nicer vintage patina...
784The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$370.00
1846 AU details/rim bumps/cleaned.
As the coin is tilted back and forth, plentiful hairlines shimmer horizontally through the obverse right field, and in the small exergue on either side of the date. This is certainly symptomatic of...
678The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$550.00
1846 XF.
Stupendously original in every possible way, some grungy, crusty dirt from the mid-1800s actually still clings to a couple of the stars on the obverse, and delicate crumbs of comparable grunge can be...
679The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$600.00
1846 AU detail/altered surfaces.
It is a little difficult to ascertain for absolute certainty whether the modest gloss underlying the patina is the result of a slightly prooflike strike or subsequent cleaning, but conservative...
675The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$725.00
1846 XF-45 and 1871 XF-45.
The need for both types of Seated dollars can be satisfied with the shrewd acquisition of this very nice pair of coins. The 1846 is aluminum-grey with very little luster, but a good strike, and only...
