Lot Title:
Philippines Under U. S. Sovereignty 1908 Proof Issue Trio.
Description:
Although the Spanish-American War began in Cuba in 1898, the Philippines became entangled in the conflict when the United States engaged Spain at the Battle of Manila Bay. Eventually, the Treaty of Paris ceded the island nation (along with Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Guam) to the United States for $20 million as a result of the Treaty of Paris. While the Philippines was under U.S. colonial administration, the Philadelphia mint struck proof examples of the 5-centavos, 10-centavos and 20-centavos coins, and PCGS has certified an example of each for this lot, graded PF-64, PF-65, and PF-64 respectively. Astonishing peach tone pervades the 5-centavos coin, endowing it with the appearance of a token, and the accompanying two coins are rather attractively toned as well. Three coin lot.
