Lot Title:
1874 Arrows. NGC PF-64 Cameo.
Description:
Too often, the presence of extensive tone seems to preclude a proper "cameo" designation where appropriate, but that is not the case here. NGC has aptly provided the designation for this very attractive 1874 "arrows" proof quarter. There are far fewer hairlines than expected of the grade, and even considering the potentially attenuating effects of the cinnamon-gold tone, surface quality is quite outstanding for just the PF-64 level. That said, very careful observation will discover a hair-thin pinscratch reaching from below Liberty's tresses down to the date. Fortunately, it is on balance almost entirely non-distracting, since it very nearly blends in with the patina. The reverse of this coin undoubtedly grades PF-65 or better.
