Lot Title:
1850-D PCGS Genuine.
Description:
Facing up as a very nice AU-50 coin (at least) is this 1850-D quarter-eagle, bearing the yellow-gold appearance that is so classic for the Dahlonega mint. While no fault is immediately apparent on the obverse, examination of the upper reverse rim discovers a flattened area, and further investigation leads to realization that the coin is bent and has probably been (almost) straightened. The bend is only barely noticeable from the front, though the reverse can be seen to be slightly depressed in the center. A clever individual could restore the planchet to more suitable flatness.

1850-D SEGS XF-45 Cleaned.

If not for the cleaning, this coin would be a solid XF+. I want to know who the people are who think cleaning a coin like this is a good idea. I mean, come on. Don’t get me wrong though, this coin... |
