(About The Images)
1889-S, 1898-S and 1899-S MS-64. 1889-S, 1898-S and 1899-S MS-64.
Lot Title: 1889-S, 1898-S and 1899-S MS-64.
Description: A trio of Morgan dollars, all certified as grading MS-64 in different holders. Included are: 1889-S (PCGS), 1898-S (NGC), and 1899-S (PCGS green label holder). Astute Morgan dollar collectors will recognize these as coins that are already fairly expensive at this grade, but triple in cost at the next. A wallet friendly three coin lot.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

High Estimate: $1,650.00

892The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$400.00
1889-S, 1897-O, and a 1900-S, all PCGS AU-58.
Checkered Collection. 1897-O suffers from a classic New Orleans strike as the area above Liberty's ear displays scarcely any intricacy, and the eagle's breast is a flat as can be. 1889-S and 1900-S,...
893The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$550.00
1889-S PCGS MS-64.
Checkered Collection. Gleaming white brilliance emanates from long, swooping bands of luster that swerve through semi-prooflike fields, and some nice diagonal die-polish emerges from the obverse...
894The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$1,550.00
1889-S PCGS MS-65.
Checkered Collection. The reverse absolutely sparkles with unlimited silver brilliance, while by contrast, some faint steam-white haze seems to have settled across most of the obverse. Closer...
913The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$360.00
1889-S ICG MS-63.
The Nickel-To-A-Doughnut Collection. Quality commensurate with the grade includes stunning, lustrous silver brilliance in the fields that dances merrily about a nicely frosted portrait. Gleaming...
914The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$525.00
1889-S PCGS MS-64.
Small crumbles of toning gravitate toward the obverse rim, with the reverse virtually completely white. Extremely well struck and brimming with intense luster, the MS-64 grade level can be readily...
788The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$475.00
1889-S PCGS MS-64.
A better date in the series, the 1889-S is not impossible to locate as a GEM, but a strong, choice example provides obvious savings benefit to the collectors. This MS-64 example shows crumbles of...
800The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$250.00
1889-S PCGS MS-63 (rattler).
Delicate steam-white patina touches the surfaces but doesn't inhibit luster at all. Details are as sharp as typical for the date, with minimal marks for the grade. Housed in a PCGS green-label...
801The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$400.00
1889-S NGC MS-64.
Pleasing definition combines with resplendent silver-white luster to produce a coin with blazing eye-appeal. The mintmark is repunched with filled loops.
802The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$1,350.00
1889-S PCGS MS-65.
Strike quality is about average for this dusky Morgan dollar, with a touch of weakness in the usual spot above Liberty's ear. An admixture of peach-bronze and iridescent teal-blue toning layers...
614The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$1,350.00
1889-S NGC MS-65.
The glamorous obverse eye-appeal benefits from optimal multi-spoked cartwheel luster that dances readily about as the coin is tilted under a good lamp, while the reverse is more typically lustrous. ...
627The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$450.00
1889-S PCGS MS-64.
Collectors have often noted the tendency for San Francisco dollars of the late 1880s to have a semi-prooflike appearance, as evidence suggests the mint basined the dies with slightly more convexity...
987The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$450.00
1889-S PCGS MS-64.
Scintillating spokes of luster unabashedly race around the fields and reflect light in a dazzling array of silvery-bisque tones. Excellent sharpness was delivered by a great strike, and only minor...
781The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$220.00
1889-S REDFIELD MS-60/reverse PVC residue.
An uncirculated coin, but the reverse is affected by residue, presumably of PVC origin.
690The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$1,000.00
1889-S and 1899-S Morgan dollars, NGC MS-64.
A suitably matched pair of Morgan dollars that are somewhat tougher in better uncirculated grades. The 1889-S glistens with quicksilver luster and sports a band of gold around the reverse, while the...
804The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$240.00
1889-S MS-63.
Obvious cameo contrast results from the semi-prooflike appearance afforded by this lovely Morgan dollar. Essentially untoned, and struck a little better than average. From “The Glencoe Album...
805The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$525.00
1889-S PCGS MS-64.
Beaming with a brilliant intensity, this virtually white Gem transmits a robust cartwheel. The surfaces are lightly marked, and some delicate scuffs are noted for ascription on Liberty's cheek. A...
803The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$525.00
1889-S PCGS MS-64.
The marks are consistent for the grade, but the flashy aspect of the surfaces, and the coin's overall attractiveness, has to make it one of the more appealing MS-64s for the date. White and tone...
825The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$240.00
1889-S MS-63.
A blanket of soft violet tones cover the obverse of this lustrous dollar. The detail is typical for the mint.
826The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$1,200.00
1889-S PCGS MS-65.
Magnificent toning of russet and blue hues intermingle on this popular Morgan Silver dollar issue. Its vivid eye appeal camouflages an insignificant amount of contact marks beneath its exquisite...
692The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$360.00
1889-S NGC MS-64.
This is a blast white dollar with dripping luster, but with a mushy S-Mint strike.
693The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$390.00
1889-S MS-64.
The extreme amounts of flashy luster make this coin almost appealing enough to grade MS-65. However, the marks seen are probably not consistent for that grade. As an MS-64, it is one of the...
694The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$1,250.00
1889-S NGC MS-64.
Luster is practically dripping off this better date. The strike is pretty strong, and there are minimal marks for the grade.
