Lot Title:
|
1864 Bronze w/o L. NGC MS-66 BN.
|
Description:
|
Housed in an older NGC no line holder is a fabulous 1864 bronze Indian cent, graded MS-66 BN. It is almost necessary for the slab to state "bronze", since the color gives a dead-on impression of a copper-nickel coin, and your humble cataloger had to look twice to make sure the coin was attributed properly. The olive-brown patina cedes just slightly to hints of burnished red color near the obverse rims and some areas of the reverse, where a carbon spot is located next to "O". Four full diamonds are visible on the ribbon, and the coin is well struck despite softness at the end of the first three feathers.

Methinks the color designation is simply wrong, as there is plenty enough mint red (some 50% or more!) remaining to permit a "red-brown" assessment. At least the numeric MS-64 makes sense, since both... |

1864 Bronze w/o L. PCGS MS-64 RB.

Amazing mint luster circulates freely about both sides, with the obverse especially lustrous. This is an extremely attractive coin for a grade of merely MS-64 RB, as the diamonds are fully struck, and... |

If you are working on a high grade type set, or one hell of a Flying Eagle set, you owe it to yourself, your coins, and collectors across this great Nation to win this coin. It is ultra-flashy,... |
