(About The Images)
1880 NGC PF-64RD Cameo. 1880 NGC PF-64RD Cameo.
Lot Title: 1880 NGC PF-64RD Cameo.
Description: Proof red copper is often prone to spots or unsightly discoloration, but the obverse of this coin is amazingly free of such distractions. In fact, the PF-64 grade seems conservative based on the quality of that side alone, though the reverse has a darkened area centered about a surface impairment toward the left side, and that is doubtless what deters higher grade consideration. Luminous copper-gold fields provide generous reflectivity, contrasting beautifully with the very sharp and nicely frosted devices. Although mellowed overall, the original red color is unmistakably strong, particularly on the obverse.
