(About The Images)
1914 and 1914-D. AU. 1914 and 1914-D. AU.
Lot Title: 1914 and 1914-D. AU.
Description: A pair of early buffalo nickels. A lustrous 1914 grades AU-55 but has peculiar green obverse toning and reddish reverse toning, leading one to question the original character of this piece. The 1914-D is similarly detailed and lustrous and is enshrouded in ruddy-tan color. Two coin lot.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Low Estimate: $300.00
High Estimate: $400.00

317The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$650.00
1914/3 (FS-14.87) PCGS VF-20.
This is a super cool overdate Buffalo nickel variety that is a must have for the "serious" collector of the series. Very strong date for the grade, and an argument could be made for 10 points higher...
563The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$2,400.00
1914/3 NGC MS-61 Richmond Collection.
The overdate feature is far more obvious than usual for this example due to the fortuitous early die state. Toned in an intriguing combination of peach-gold and sky-blue color, some note must be...
564The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$1,150.00
1914 PCGS PF-64.
Though all early proof Buffalo nickels (1913 - 1916) are of the "matte proof" finish, some examples, such as the 1914 offered here, provide a semi-brilliant satiny finish that may be indicative of...
499The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$675.00
1914 Buffalo nickel, NGC MS-66
Fabulous mint luster generates most of this coin's excellent eye appeal, but the strike is certainly no slouch. Though generally light and bright, subtle diffusion of gold color escapes to the edges,...
969The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$350.00
1914/3 MDS SEGS MS-62 Wiped.
A seldom encountered overdate that was discovered as recently as 1996. This example shows hairlines on the front and a somewhat unusual toning spot on the reverse. Appears AU.
1162The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$575.00
1914/3 SEGS XF-40.
This is a tough variety that is holdered as an XF, which appears to be the correct grade. The underdigit is much stronger than is common for this coin. Fully struck and "all there," this coin will...
473The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$2,300.00
1914 NGC PF-66.
Matte Proof coins will always be a popular collector segment of the hobby. This monstrously high grade example has a just a hint of toning on the reverse, it is pleasing to the eye. All of the...
