Lot Title:
1882 NGC PF-63 Cameo.
Description:
The PF-63 grade tends to give an indication that moderate hairlines are present, restricting the appeal of the proof coin, but such is not the case here. Rather, it is a profusion of handling marks in the fields that denote the "choice" level. It is almost as if this particular proof specimen was mixed in with business strike coins at some time, as the handling marks are very similar to what is typically seen on certified MS-63 gold. Nonetheless, the cameo contrast designated on the slab is obvious, and fortunately, few of the handling marks are actually present on the devices, so that the contrast and overall eye appeal are actually somewhat better than anticipated.

Stars are well formed, and Liberty's hair is generally sharp except for trivial softness over the ear. Surface texture displays a classic "halo effect" around the outer stars, and amplifies the... |

NGC has judiciously applied the MS-61 grade to each member of this quartet, which totals $15 in face value. Quarter eagles include 1878 and 1926, and half-eagles include 1882 and 1903-S. For the... |

Mint-green iridescence greets the rims and accents fully formed stars that attest to an outstanding strike. A frosty coin, the surfaces are possibly a trifle more affected by ticks than usual for... |
