Lot Title:
Two 1856 Gold Dollars. NGC MS-62.
Description:
A pair of nicely matched Type III Gold Dollars from the first year of issue for this variety. The first has the upright-5 position in the date, while the second has the upright of the numeral at a slant. The upright-5 example is somewhat scarcer in higher grades. They are both well struck and lustrous, having contact ticks congruent for the assigned grades. The upright-5 specimen has a vibrant yellow-gold appearance, and the slanted-5 issue has a more mellow aspect. Some light clash marks are observed on the reverse of both.
