(About The Images)
1876 NTC MS-62. [AU/cleaned] 1876 NTC MS-62. [AU/cleaned]
Lot Title: 1876 NTC MS-62. [AU/cleaned]
Description: NTC has encapsulated this scarce 1876 twenty-cent and graded it MS-62, but a more appropriate grade is AU-55/cleaned. The issue is known for almost always being represented by prooflike coins, and that is the case here, though the cleaning has dulled the normally reflective fields, and an objectionable brassy stain is splashed about the center of each side.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Low Estimate: $475.00
High Estimate: $600.00

441The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$330.00
1876 VF.
Campania Estate. VF-30 seems like a reasonable grade, given an almost-full LIBERTY on the shield, not to mention an occasional vestige of luster. Feathery hairlines shimmer lightly under the right...
624The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$1,050.00
1876 NGC MS-62 (no line).
The very old NGC slab ensures stability of the deep, near-ebony toning that surrounds both sides, and the toning pattern features subtlety with the way these dusky tones yield to denim-grey patina...
625The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$2,300.00
1876 PCGS PF-63.
Platelike reflectivity beams illumination directly back at the viewer, coloring it with splashes of chartreuse-bronze, in addition to a delicate splash of cobalt-grey. The sharpness is all there as...
745The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$1,750.00
1876 NGC MS-64.
Mintage: 14,600. With so few struck, 1876 would be an expensive key were the 20-cent series more than just a passing non-interest to most collectors. Twisting, turning luster embellishes this...
495The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$4,600.00
1876 NGC MS-65.
Sharpness borders on outrageous, with every single exquisite tiny detail brought up to near perfection, including each star, and every feather tendril at the eagle's breast. Layered gently across the...
628The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$475.00
1876 NGC AU-50.
An apparently think, naturally layered patina has suppressed the mint luster, which may make the coin appear to have more wear than the typical AU coin to some viewers. However, the overall appeal is...
629The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$475.00
1876 AU.
Tinges of luster manage to rise through a thick, original and extremely appealing patina that graces each side with an array of rich rainbow colors. While graphite tones shade the fields with greyish...
454The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$450.00
1876 AU-50 Cleaned.
This decent example from this popular, short-lived series displays a random array of hairlines from a previous cleaning. Its surfaces are somewhat reflective, while the design motifs are especially...
522The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$340.00
1876 AU Cleaned.
Strong AU+ detail, but showing cleaned surfaces. Still a respectable example of this short-lived-series type.
