1893-CC VAM-1 REDFIELD MS-62 1893-CC VAM-1 REDFIELD MS-62
Lot Title: 1893-CC VAM-1 REDFIELD MS-62
Description: Carson City coins of the early 1890s are acknowledged for frequently suffering abrasions from storage methods during transportation, and that is the case here, resulting in a fairly well abraded cheek and lower neck. That said, the strike and luster are unimpeachable, and a wide ring of colorful sea-green and powder-gold album tone rejuvenates the reverse. VAM-1 features an upright "CC", with this particular die state characterized by a sharp triple-clashed reverse.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

High Estimate: $3,300.00

857The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$360.00
1879-S (x2), 1880-S (x2) and 1881-S REDFIELD.
A lot of common but attractive Redfield dollars. Included are: 1879-S/S (MS-63 SPL), 1879-S VAM-14 (MS-64), 1880-S (MS-63), 1880-S (MS-62), and 1881-S (MS-63). None of the coins is excessively...
858The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$230.00
1881-S and 1882-S (x2) REDFIELD.
Common S-mint Morgans are in this lot, each one atypically toned only a little at the rims. Included are: 1881-S (MS-63), 1882-S (MS-63), and 1882-S (MS-64). Note that the final coin this lot...
859The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$2,200.00
1883-S REDFIELD MS-62.
A well known condition rarity in the Morgan dollar series, 1883-S is frequently encountered in circulated grades and sometimes lower mint-state grades, up through MS-62. At MS-63, it starts to become...
860The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$700.00
1886-S and 1887-S REDFIELD.
The 1886-S and 1887-S dollars in this lot are of similar appearance and grade MS-62, and for that matter, they are similarly valued in price guides. Each features a significant number of abrasions...
861The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$1,150.00
1887-S REDFIELD MS-63.
Classic Redfield toning has invaded each side with equal portions of sapphire-blue and cinnamon-orange toning gathered toward the rims. Razor-sharp details are precisely layered over generally clean...
862The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$650.00
1888-S, 1890-S and 1897-S REDFIELD.
A trio of Redfield dollars, listed as follows: 1888-S (MS-63), 1890-S (MS-60), and 1897-S (MS-61). All three coins feature some level of color, with the 1888-S featuring the least in the form of rim...
863The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$450.00
1888-S REDFIELD MS-63.
Choice with only a moderately abraded cheek. Vivid citrus-orange and ocean-blue color splashes around the lower obverse.
864The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$700.00
1888-S REDFIELD MS-63 +.
Satin smooth fields fall just shy of the reflectivity necessary to garner a prooflike designation, but the watery appeal is obvious. Most of the abrasions pertinent to the grade are gathered on...
865The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$625.00
1888-S REDFIELD MS-63 PL.
Frenzied cartwheel luster shimmers off this jewel in an extraordinary array of flash and brilliance. It's amazing that this much life can be found on the surface of a single coin! Though primarily...
866The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$1,200.00
1888-S REDFIELD MS-64.
Sharply struck, though not quite powerfully enough to eradicate all the roller marks on Liberty's lower cheek. Marvelous mint luster flows readily from beneath an attractive blanket of blueberry and...
867The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$1,650.00
1888-S REDFIELD MS-64 PL.
Field reflectivity and strike quality are reminiscent of San Francisco coins of the early 1880s, with the eye appeal aided by a profusion of mulberry-blue and wheat-gold toning splashed across each...
868The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$390.00
1889-S REDFIELD MS-63.
Rust-bronze pull-away toning flickers and gravitates to the edges of the obverse, becoming more prevalent across the reverse. There is a fleck of carbon resting atop the eagle's right (observed) leg.
869The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$400.00
1889-S REDFIELD MS-63.
Richly toned in bronze and blue. There are no large blemishes -- just the abrading of the devices that is common to Redfield coins.
870The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$750.00
1889-S REDFIELD MS-64.
Terrific luster zips and zooms around the fields and leaps over the devices with multiple spokes of cartwheel effect. While technical grading consideration wavers between MS-63 and MS-64, this racy...
871The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$340.00
1890-S VAM-2 and 1897-S VAM-1 REDFIELD.
MS-63 is a befitting grade for both of these San Francisco dollars. The 1890-S is one blemish -- a scrape on Liberty's cheek -- away from MS-64 and features a sharp strike and pleasing rouge-gold...
872The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$550.00
1890-S and 1898-S REDFIELD.
A pair of S-mint dollars are included in this lot, and both feature extensive toning. The 1890-S grades MS-63 PL with serious claims to an MS-64 grade and reflectivity that may yield DMPL...
873The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$675.00
1890-S REDFIELD MS-65.
Vibrant spokes of luster twirl around the obverse unimpeded by the usual peripheral tone. A singular oblong mark is centered on the crease of Liberty's neck.
874The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$4,900.00
1892-CC VAM-10 REDFIELD MS-64 +++.
Evidence of a digit in the denticles between "9" and "2" of the date is obvious from the curve that connects three denticles beneath the digits, though as implied by the VAM book, one cannot tell...
875The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$8,000.00
1892-CC VAM-8A REDFIELD MS-65 ++.
Paramount indicated a grade of MS-65 "Plus", and though this is a fabulous coin, the "gem" MS-65 grade seems perfectly suitable for the quality. VAM-8A is instantly recognizable by the filled "2" in...
877The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$6,750.00
1895-S REDFIELD MS-64.
Any Morgan with an 1895 date is immediately recognizable as a rare issue, and at the MS-64 grade level, 1895-S becomes a premier semi-key. This example is infused with powdery-gold color that yields...
878The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$330.00
1898-S VAM-6. REDFIELD MS-62.
Fields provide some semblance of reflectivity, but along with the primary devices, are affected by a plentiful supply of small abrasions. A clear arc of rainbow toning appears along the lower obverse...
879The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$775.00
1898-S REDFIELD MS-63 +.
Denim-blue tones mix it up with splashes of amber-olive to produce an intermingled array of competing colors on both sides. About a third of this slightly semi-prooflike 1898-S is enriched with...
880The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$1,500.00
1898-S VAM-9 REDFIELD MS-65.
Extensive die polish can readily be seen in throughout both sides, lending a very attractive semi-prooflike brushed aluminum effect. This is a mostly untoned coin that may not ravish the eye...
881The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$500.00
1899-S VAM-5 REDFIELD MS-62.
VAM-5 is readily identifiable by the repunched "S" that leans right. This is a prominently detailed coin that has no shortage of luster despite a good supply of toning on the obverse. The reverse is...
882The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$775.00
1899-S REDFIELD MS-63 +.
Prismatic tone that has seized control of the periphery approaches full rainbow status, especially along the right obverse rim, and the reverse is even more extensively toned. A well struck coin with...
883The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$775.00
1899-S REDFIELD MS-64.
The obverse is exceptionally clean for the grade and appears to warrant "gem" consideration, but a number of minuscule abrasions are scattered across the reverse. Unlike many heavily toned Redfield...
884The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$500.00
1900-S REDFIELD MS-64.
Exuberant mint luster cartwheels readily about each side of one of the nice-for-the-grade coins in today's selection of Redfield dollars. The eye appeal benefits mightily from the exceedingly fine...
885The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$700.00
1900-S REDFIELD MS-64.
There are far fewer contact marks or abrasions than expected of a Redfield specimen to be found on this dollar, one of the best coins from today's mini-hoard. Liberty's cheek appears essentially...
886The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$875.00
1900-S REDFIELD MS-64.
Nearly MS-65 if not for a fairly inoffensive scratch arcing from the corner of Liberty's mouth down to her throat. Rich royal-blue and cinnamon-tan album tone decorates nearly the entire edge of both...
887The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$500.00
1902-S REDFIELD MS-63
Were it not for a lengthy blemish in the upper left obverse field, this would be a "gem" as Liberty's cheek is satiny smooth, and the surfaces otherwise clean and lustrous. Less "Redfield toning"...
888The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$900.00
1902-S REDFIELD MS-63.
Nearly bull's-eye toning on the reverse is dramatically enhanced by the booming luster, while the obverse is somewhat more densely toned, helping to subdue the luster on that side to some extent.
889The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$500.00
1902-S REDFIELD MS-64.
Tempting is a bump up to the next grade of MS-65 (where the value of 1902-S becomes considerably higher), though a couple of factors likely stifle such consideration. From the positive standpoint,...
