Lot Title:

1865 NGC PF-65.
Description:
There can be no question whatsoever that this is an ultra-original gem proof seated half-dollar. Given ample time, silver should tone to black, and though that has (thankfully) not occurred here, the dense patina provides an extremely rich and subtly prismatic appearance. Your cataloger contends that this coin fell of the dies with full cameo contrast, though ensuing decades of storage lessened the degree of contrast due to surface color. The fields appear to be deeply mirrored, and the devices plush with cameo frost. Marvelous deep sea-green tone of unlimited depth dominates both sides, surrounding an island of magenta-mauve and midnight-blue, with the reverse shield prominently illuminated by the sudden appearance of peach-gold color. To top off all the superlatives, the strike is immensely sharp, even for a proof. Gem quality without the slightest hesitation!
