Lot Title:
1855 w/ Arrows. PCGS MS-65.
Description:
While production of one-and-three-quarters of a million would not qualify as low mintage in the seated half-dime series, the 1855 becomes downright scarce at the grade of MS-65, as do other "common" issues. A mere three examples grade higher than the 23 graded MS-65 at PCGS. This coin is platinum-white and beaming with mint luster, with the sole grading determinant being a contact mark near the exact center of the obverse. A magnificent die crack wanders across the reverse, fully bisecting this coin, and judging by the extensive die clash effects on both sides, there can be no doubt that die-to-die contact doomed the useful life of this reverse die.
