Lot Title:

1912 NGC MS-66.
|
Description:
|
This has to be one of the most incredibly attractive coins in this sale, and perhaps one of the most beautiful Barber dimes in existence, of any date or grade. From a purely technical standpoint, the strike is about as full as can ever be expected of a business-strike, and the quantity of luster practically spills right off the surfaces. But the color is obviously what sells this coin - wow! A mind-expanding array of colors radiate from both sides with astounding vibrancy that must be seen to be believed. The center of the obverse begins innocently enough with a burnt-orange pattern that evolves unexpectedly into electric blue, then suddenly explodes right off the planchet in a magnificent display of iridescent green, crimson, gold and indigo fireworks. Meanwhile, the reverse takes on a decidedly different approach, beginning instead with shocking blue at the center that quickly cycles through each color in the spectrum - green, indigo, orange, crimson, magenta, and finally back to blue. One of this sale's amazing, stunning, and energizing must-see coins!

Subtle luster seems a little lost beneath a decidedly thick layer of silver patina, so this coin may be a candidate for conservation. Typically struck for the date. |
