(About The Images)
1909 PCGS PF-64RB. 1909 PCGS PF-64RB.
Lot Title: 1909 PCGS PF-64RB.
Description: Matte proof Lincoln cents are highly coveted by aficionados of classic American series, and those seeking a single type example will often settle on the 1909, since the inaugural 1909-VDB is expensive as the key to the set. The present 1909 features dramatic sharpness and the classic contrast of texture between the obverse and reverse dies. This obverse die was shared with the earlier 1909 coins and paired with a new reverse (with no "VDB", of course), so that the newer side produced the pebbly effect that the series is known for (hence the "matte" appellation). Lovely mint red-orange color imbues the obverse with vintage appeal, while the reverse features candy-apple navy-blue iridescence distributed across much of the reverse in a large crescent pattern. Minor carbon spots affect the obverse, the most notable adhering to the back of the President's head.
