Lot Title: Half pack of 1957-B $1.00. CHCU.
Description: Fr-1621. Half pack of 1957-B silver certificates, X-A block. The original bank strap is hand stamped "Briggs National Bank / PAID Jun.16.196X / P.T.1 / FRIENDSHIP". The Farmers & Mechanics Branch of Riggs dates to 1814 when it was founded by a group of prominent Georgetown businessmen, among whose directors were George C. Washington, nephew of the first American president, and Romulus Riggs, uncle of George W. Riggs, who was a partner of Corcoran & Riggs, the predecessors of Riggs National Bank.). The bank was nationalized as the Farmers & Mechanics National Bank of Georgetown fifty-eight years later, in 1872. The bank conducted its business at 31st and M Streets, N.W., until 1922, when it moved to its present location. In 1927, it opened a branch at Wisconsin Avenue and Warren St., N.W., which since has become "Riggs' Friendship Branch". It merged with Riggs in December, 1928.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
