Lot Title:

Consecutive Proof Set Years (1950 - 1963) in Two Capital Plastic Boards.
|
Description:
|
An absolutely mind boggling, stunning array of proof sets is housed in a pair of Capital Plastics holders, consecutively dated from 1950 through 1963. Hours could be spent discussing the coins, and pages of text dedicated to their description, but in brief, nearly every single coin is at least "choice", if not fully "gem", but more importantly, extraordinary effort has been made to procure the most beautiful, colorful and original coins imaginable. Obviously, the consignor knows exactly what he is doing! To a great extent, it would be an injustice to grade these coins, and that only diverts attention away from the kaleidoscope of marvelous rainbow hues, so instead, your cataloger will focus on a few of the choicest highlights, though practically every coin merits special note.
The 1950 half is an album-toned marvel, as are the 1951 dime and quarter and the 1952 quarter. The 1953 dime is engorged with burgundy and royal blue, and the 1954 adds burnt autumn gold color to that formula. Splashes of color or crescent toning patterns affect 1955 and 1956. The 1957 quarter has to be one of the very best coins in this incredible collection, with obverse rainbows of beauty that defies description. Molten gold paints additional rainbows on the 1958 quarter, and the 1959 dime is infused with azure brilliance. Several coins in the subsequent proof sets look like Christmas tree ornaments! An astounding collection that must be seen to be believed.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
