(About The Images)
1928 Hawaii. NGC AU-58. 1928 Hawaii. NGC AU-58.
Lot Title: 1928 Hawaii. NGC AU-58.
Description: While it is true that some early commemorative half-dollars can be found well circulated, it is fortunate for collectors that the 1928 Hawaiian seldom suffered this fate, as it is easily one of the keys to the series. Still, there are some which entered circulation briefly, such as the AU-58 example offered here. A lion's share of the original mint luster remains on both sides, particularly on the obverse, which is separated from full mint state by a touch of rub on Cook's cheek and label buttons. Honey-brown patina reaches deep within the design crevices to provide a rich outline to all of the devices, lending the coin a bolder appearance than usual for the low-relief design.

1101The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$2,200.00
1928 Hawaii. NGC MS-63.
Above average for MS-63, the luster is mildly subdued by steam-grey patina, but the surfaces exhibit only a few handling marks. A singular tick on the cheek and a couple of small reedlike marks on...
194The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$1,600.00
1928 Hawaii. AU details/cleaned.
For coins that have wide, expansive fields, it can be most difficult to hide an old cleaning. This Hawaiian half-dollar displays cloudy hairlines in the fields, and an appearance that is oddly "dull"...
394The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$3,800.00
1928 Hawaii. NGC MS-65.
Nice, brightly shining mint luster yields a very premium appearance for this key commemorative half-dollar. What sets this coin apart from lower graded examples is the clean appearance of all fields,...
1134The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$3,300.00
1928 Hawaii. NGC MS-64.
Toast-gold tone aligns with the borders and luster shimmers nicely on both sides. NGC has suitably graded this Hawaiian half-dollar MS-64.
1212The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$1,450.00
1928 Hawaii. AU+, cleaned.
Multiple hairlines are equally apparent on both sides, and little trace of original mint luster remains. Very slightly worn on the highpoints.
1213The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$1,800.00
1928 Hawaii. MS-60, PVC residue.
PVC residue clouds the entire surface, leaving your cataloger to judge this coin only on its merits of surface quality and wear, and from this regard, it is clearly an uncirculated coin. However, it...
1214The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$3,150.00
1928 Hawaii. PCGS MS-64.
Thrilling mint luster cartwheels across satiny fields and fills this lovely Hawaiian half with eye appeal. Strong for the grade, with a string of trivial oblong bagmarks in front of Cook's portrait.
1266The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$2,350.00
1928 Hawaii. MS-60++.
A wonderful rose-gold glow emits from this vivid specimen. Magnifying this visual splendor are exquisite nuances of blue. Without the aid of a glass, the minute contact ticks on Captain Cook's cheek...
925The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$1,850.00
1928 Hawaii MS-60 Lightly Cleaned.
The luster, brightness, and lack of rub to be considered an MS-63, but it appears to have been lightly cleaned. Nevertheless, this is a very respectable example of a difficult-to-located Silver...
