(About The Images)
1821 and 1822. 1821 and 1822.
Lot Title: 1821 and 1822.
Description: A pair of somewhat more difficult large cents. The 1821 N-2 is a delightful example of a date that has become very difficult to find "nice" in recent years. In perusing EAC catalogs of the past few sales, it is remarkable how rarely it has been offered to collectors! This example has the details of a VF-25 grade, and suffers only minor detractions, including a dig at 12:00 of the obverse, and two dark patches and a rim ding at 3:00 of the reverse, leading to an estimated grade of EAC 20. Accompanying is an 1822 N-2 that displays signs of only gentle circulation and AU-55 details. This coin has unfortunately been rather heavily dipped, and has retoned to a magenta-rose color scheme that is entirely unnatural for early copper. It suffers no other handling blemishes, though a couple of planchet flakes on the reverse, one at 1:00 and the other well below "N" in CENT deserve mention. This coin might carry an EAC 40 grade. Two coin lot.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

221The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$450.00
1821 (N-7) VF details/scratched/residue.
Some caveats affect the value negatively, but really, this is not a bad cent at all given that it is an 1821, and those tend to be ugly. Details go all the way to VF, but someone has errantly...
140The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$1,450.00
1821 (N-2, R.1) PCGS XF-45.
Date collectors know just as well as early copper specialists do how very difficult it is to locate a nice 1821 large-cent of either Sheldon variety. Mintage of under 400,000 was significantly lower...
141The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$380.00
1821 (N-2) VF and 1822 (N-2, R.3) XF.
Newcomb attribution of N-2 applies to both these large-cents, although they are different dates. 1821 displays details that just barely achieve the VF level, but each side displays evidence of...
241The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$305.00
Three better Coronet Head Cents.
1818 XF, 1821 VG+, and 1826 VF-30+. The 1818 has nearly uncirculated detail but may have been recolored to achieve a uniform medium brown color. The 1821 has a few light surface scratches, but it is...
269The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$4,000.00
1821 MS-60+ BN.
This is a super tough coin in the higher circulated grades and nearly impossible in the uncirculated grades. There is no wear, and only a few light contact marks can be seen on the nice, even brown...
