(About The Images)
1887/6-O Vam-3, PCI MS-63. 1887/6-O Vam-3, PCI MS-63.
Lot Title: 1887/6-O Vam-3, PCI MS-63.
Description: Though the under-digit feature for the New Orleans version of the 1887/6 overdate is significantly less readily observed than that of it's Philadelphia counterpart, PCI has correctly identified this Morgan dollar as 1887/6-O, attributed as VAM-3 by die specialists. Though housed in a PCI gold holder with a grade of MS-63, your cataloger suggests that MS-61 is a more fitting grade, considering the dusky, subdued mint luster and faint overall abrading of each side.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

824The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$775.00
1887/6-O (Top-100, VAM-3) NGC MS-62.
Curiously dead-flat luster undoubtedly inspired the MS-62 grade, although as usual for the 1887/6-O, central details scarcely show on either side. Bidders with excellent eyesight will actually be...
825The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$1,550.00
1887/6-O PCGS MS-63.
White overall with a subtle hint of eggshell patina nearer the centers. The curve of the under digit "6" shows nicely to the right of the "7", and as is always the case for coins struck by this very...
907The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$1,825.00
1887-O PCGS MS-65.
Difficult to locate at the gem level, 1887-O provides little challenge in lower grades, where one seldom finds the kind of sharpness and rather impressive luster found here. Very few marks of any...
1000The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$425.00
1887-O, 1888-O, and 1899-O, NGC MS-64.
Line 'em up and fill three more difficult, though not impossible holes in your Morgan dollar collection. Delightful, smooth luster brings plenty of appeal to the 1887-O, although as usual, central...
770The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$2,100.00
1887/6-O (VAM-3) NGC MS-63.
1887/6-O VAM-3. Untoned with amazing luster for MS-63. This represents one of the very few VAM varieties listed in the greysheet, and that automatically creates premium value for any nice example. ...
771The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$1,750.00
1887-O PCGS MS-65.
187 graded MS-65, 9 higher. A softly glowing GEM, cotton-white luster benefits from a much better strike than usual from the New Orleans mint, though the curl over Liberty's ear looks a trifle soft. ...
709The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$1,500.00
1887/6-O (VAM-3, Top 100) NGC MS-63.
One of the few Morgan dollar varieties famous enough to appear on "the greysheet", the overdate feature shows up well under a loupe, with this the usual die-state for VAM-3. A small, curving tine...
891The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$450.00
1887-O and 1899-S NGC MS-63.
Both of these issues see large price jumps in higher grade, making the NGC MS-63 grade level an excellent "sweet spot" for the savvy collector. 1887-O displays exquisite sharpness, even nicer than...
892The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$4,900.00
1887-O PCGS MS-65PL.
1887-O is one of those classic Morgan dollar issues that is common as chicken feathers in low grade, but scarce as hen's teeth at MS-65, and downright rare with a DMPL designation. The PCGS...
615The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$270.00
1887-O NGC MS-64.
Stone cold silver-grey surfaces exhibit only moderate luster, and there are very few grade limiting abrasions on Liberty's clean cheek. A scattering of minute luster grazes in the fields likely...
695The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$600.00
1887-O and three additional NGC certified 'PL' Morgan dollars. Unc.
All four of these coins are housed in what are affectionately known as "NGC no-line" holders, yet the slabs are fresh and essentially unscuffed. The 1878 "7TF, reverse of 1878" is graded MS-64 PL,...
788The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$600.00
1887-O and 1890-O NGC MS-64.
A pair of semi-key dates, at least semi-key in uncirculated grades. Both are high end for the MS-64 level, particularly the 1887-O, which has a nice clean cheek. White coins.
