Lot Title:
1870-S XF-45 Cleaned.
Description:
Sometime, long ago, someone decided to clean this coin. After tirelessly researching its pedigree, we discovered the culprit and immediately reported him to the ACME Coin Detectives who revoked all of his collecting privileges. If he behaves, they may let him start collecting State Quarters. Anyway, the coin has retoned nicely, and the only evidence left are some cleaning lines. This is a super tough date to find. 1870-S coins are some of the rariest coins in the hobby, so just owning this date/mint mark combination is a feat in itself.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

If you look at the reverse, just to the right you can see some original mint luster. This seriously old half eagle is totally original and free of major distractions. |
